Dear all,
A new year is now here for us all. For freshers, this year represents the beginning of a new chapter in life, marked with having a great time and making lifelong friends. For our second years, now begins a period of settling into the degree more and starting to think about specific interests within law. Lastly, while we might’ve lost some friends to schemes for studying abroad, the final years are getting ready for the last push and feeling the sudden need to say “I can’t believe it’s final year already” 100 times.
Before the important stuff starts, a repetition of the important reminder from last newsletter: this newsletter is where every important bit of information will be sent out this year. If you do not at least skim over these, you will miss all of the Law Society’s opportunities!

Black History Month Panel
As we enter October, the significance of Black History Month is highlighted. It’s a time to come together and recognise and celebrate the remarkable contributions of black people in the past and present. Black History Month serves as a time to acknowledge the efforts of individuals who made significant contributions in all aspects of society, often against major adversity, and inspires us even now to break down barriers and challenge injustice.
At the UCL Law Society, we acknowledge that it is necessary to celebrate these parts of our history, especially those which tend to be glazed over. As testament to our commitment, the Diversity, Inclusion, and Overseas Subcommittee will be hosting a panel in collaboration with Eversheds Sutherland and Freshfields to receive insight from black individuals in the legal sector and learn from their experiences.
We encourage all members of our community to join us on October 10th at 6:00pm in LG17 Bentham House to join us as we celebrate Black History Month. Please contact the DIO Officer at meral.abibula.21@ucl.ac.uk with any questions.
The link to RSVP for this event can be found here.
