Dear all,
Welcome to the penultimate UCL Law Society Newsletter of this year! Hasn’t it flown by? Here is another week of updates from us as term begins to wind up - we hope you enjoy.
SMC Final
After five knock-out rounds of an incredibly high calibre, this year's SMC grand final will take place on Friday 22nd March from 4:30pm. The moot will be judged by Baron Neuberger of Abbotsbury, former President of the Supreme Court and Master of the Rolls. Following the moot, a reception will be held with food and drinks at the nearby The Feathers pub.
We have a limited number of tickets, and they will be issued on a first come, first served basis. You can get your tickets here.
If you have any questions, please email our Senior Moots Officer at saiba.ahuja.21@ucl.ac.uk.
UCL Law Soc x JLAP Pro Bono in a Legal Career
Join us to hear from two incredible legal professionals about how lawyers can incorporate pro bono work within their legal career. An informal networking session with snacks and drinks will follow our panel discussion.
Annahita is a UCL MA Legal and Political Theory graduate, and specialises in inquests, inquiries, abuse and torture claims, and international law. Her work includes the ongoing inquest into COVID-19, and she is currently appointed as an assistant to counsel in the International Criminal Court. David sets up and supports pro bono cases and projects for corporate lawyers, with a focus on contentious work like strategic litigation. He has extensive prior experience in legal aid, where he managed judicial reviews of local and central government decision-making regarding matters such as trafficking, statelessness, and refugee claims.
The event will take place on Thursday 14th March, from 6:00-9:00pm in LG16. You can sign up to attend here. If you have any questions, please email our Pro Bono Officer at eren.i’anson.21@ucl.ac.uk.
