Dear all,
Welcome to the landmark twentieth edition of the UCL Law Society’s weekly newsletter. We hope you have all had a restful and productive Reading Week and are looking forward to the final five weeks of lectures. Here is another set of notices from us to set the term off.
Important Notice - Communications
Please remember that if you are contacting Law Society committee members about their events and opportunities, please do so through their emails, not their personal numbers or social media accounts. This helps keep everything in one place for the committee members so that things don’t fall through the gaps, and helps maintain a separation of work and personal communications for us. The emails of the relevant officers to contact have always been, and will continue to be, published in this newsletter in the relevant sections. Thank you!
Important Notice - Awards
We are pleased and proud to announce that we have been nominated for the Best Society for First Years award at the Student Law Society Awards 2024. Thank you to everyone who has put work towards this nomination, and keep your eyes peeled for whether we manage to win the award…
Silk v Brief Submission Deadline Extension
The deadline for submissions for the Spring edition of Silk v Brief, the UCL Law Society’s flagship publication, have been extended! Getting your work published here is a fantastic opportunity to get engaged with Law Society publications by talking about legal issues you are passionate about.
As well as articles, submissions are open for creative media, too. If you are an artist, photographer, writer, or poet, we would love to showcase your work in Silk v Brief as well, so please send in your submissions.
Previous editions can be found here.
For more details about exactly what a submission involves, as well as to actually submit your piece, please visit the link here. There will be a prize for the best submission this year, so make sure to get your articles in.
If you would like to submit to this edition of Silk v Brief but need a little extra time to do so, please do get in touch with the Publications Officer at james.hall.21@ucl.ac.uk and we can discuss options.
Disability Panel
Join us for an insightful and welcoming panel discussion into disability and legal careers and education. The panel will feature representatives from Freshfields, Clifford Chance, and Linklaters. This event is open to all members of our UCL Law community, as it is a vital opportunity to learn, understand, and network.
The event will take place on Monday 26th February from 6:30pm in the Gideon Schreier LT. You can sign up to attend using the link here.
If you have any questions, please contact our DIO Officer at meral.abibula.21@ucl.ac.uk.
Bristol Intervarsity Debate
A reminder that on Friday 23rd February, the LLB Common Room will be closed to host the Intervarsity Debate with the University of Bristol from 3:30-6:30pm. Thank you for your understanding.
