Dear all,
Welcome back to UCL and to Law Society! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and we wish you a very happy new year and a fantastic Term 2. While the cold, rain, and early sunsets of this term might work hard to make life more difficult, UCL Law Society works harder to keep bringing you brilliant events and opportunities to make the most of! Here is our first newsletter back with these opportunities, so keep an eye out for more each Monday at midday like last term!
ESU-Essex Court National Mooting Competition
The ESU–Essex Court National Mooting Competition is one of the longest-established national mooting competitions in the UK. The competition begins with Round 1 in January, and then continuous knock out rounds follow until the final in June. The moot problems are appeals on core legal subjects that do not require specialist knowledge.
UCL Law Society is recruiting a team of two mooters to participate. If you are interested, you will need a 250 word statement of motivation and a Mooting CV. Previous mooting experience is a benefit. You can apply to be part of the UCL team in this prestigious competition here.
If you have any further questions, please email our Senior Moots Officer at saiba.ahuja.21@ucl.ac.uk.
Deadline: 11:59pm, Friday 19th January
Socioeconomic Mobility Panel
We are proud to be hosting a panel event with Macfarlanes, Ashurst, and Willkie Farr & Gallagher on the topic of socioeconomic mobility. At this event, you can hear from representatives from these firms talk about their own personal journeys into law, as well as the resources available to help.
The event will take place in Gideon Schreier LT at 6:30pm on the 15th January. All UCL Law Society members, regardless of background, are welcome at this event. You can sign up to attend here.
Silk v Brief Reminder
Don’t forget that you can read the Winter 2023/24 edition of our flagship publication here! It’s full of brilliant pieces by peers, as well as feature and lifestyle pieces.
(P.S. Submissions will open for the Spring edition in just under a month - it would be lovely to see your work featured. This edition comes with a launch party, too!)
